Sneak Peek on my little enterprise

A couple of weeks ago, the girls and I went shopping for material for the swim dresses I sew them every couple of years (see here and here).

Each time I make the swim dresses, I have to make up the largest of the patterns from scratch for Miriam, who is the oldest. The patterns I have made her in years past still work for the younger girls.

For years, I have been wanting to make these patterns available to others, as I get asked about them quite frequently. Not to mention, if I had the pattern designed once and for all in all sizes, it would save me much time and effort down the road.

With all that in mind, I set about starting a new little venture of selling my patterns online. I am hoping to have it all up and running, ready to take orders by next week. In the meantime, I just wanted to give you all a heads-up why I will not be blogging much in the coming days.

This is just a little prototype pattern in its envelope. In all, three multi-size patterns will be available, for ladies, girls, and toddlers.

Stay tuned for the official launch! :) I'll have to think of a fun giveaway.

  1. I would love to order these! Thanks to your husband's preaching my family recently got saved, so we are trying to switch all immodest clothes over to God honoring modest clothing. Thank you for everything you do & for sharing it so openly!

  2. This is so cute! Would you ever be willing to sew these for people that don't sew?

  3. I cant wait! No doubt your beautiful patterns will do well! It is so difficult to find modest swimwear these days. Loving that you are offering these for us :)

  4. You will succeed Zsuzsanna, there is no doubt in my mind. After all you have the backing of God. :)

  5. YESSS!!! I am thinking of getting my daughter into swim lessons but finding a modest swim dress has been difficult. I will be watching for your pattern to become available for purchase!!!

  6. Can't wait. I love that you use a zipper in the back - though I might move it to the front for ease of getting in and out of without help. Looking forward to making several of these.

  7. I don't have girls so will not be in the market for these patterns, but I think the suits are adorable and the patterns will sell well! I don't sew a lot, but I do know sewing on stretch/swimsuit fabric can be tricky. I can see this developing into a successful business for you, maybe even making custom orders (though I'm sure you don't have time for this now). Best wishes on launching this!

  8. Serious questions....how are swim dress modest once the girls are in the water? Don't the bottoms float up or are they weighted?

    1. It says on the back of the envelope that there are "built in leggings" (which I will go ahead and assume they are tighter around the leg to prevent them from floating up)

  9. I think these swim dresses are so cute! I can't sew at all and don't have a machine but I would definitely buy a ready made one from you! ;-)

  11. Forgive me if you have answered this question previously and I missed it. What sort of design do the swim dresses have underneath (perhaps, for example, something like matching "safety shorts") for when the girls are swimming and the skirt portion of the dress floats up?

    1. leggings are under the skirt, attached to the main torso

  12. This is great! I am looking for a swim dress myself but they are very expensive. If you ever made them, I would buy one. I wish you the best on this new project.

  14. I LOOOOOOOOVE this idea! I am so tired of trying to find a swimming suit for a 10 year old that doesn't look like it was made for a street walker. :(

  15. for those worried about the dress bottom "floating up," you can read here http://stevenandersonfamily.blogspot.com/2013/06/summer-project-new-swim-suits.html where she describes the suits in a little more detail. Note it says the suits have leggings attached.

  16. Yes!! This is perfect timing as this is the first year that I have chosen to "go modest", but the price of ready-made swimwear online is prohibitive, especially once shipping is included. It's a shame. Will you ship these patterns internationally, specifically to the UK? Or will you have a downloadable pattern available? Gemma

  18. Forgive me, but how are these modest when the girls get out of the water? Won't the wet fabric cling regardless?
