Food, Inc. is a documentary that does a great job of explaining how our current system of food production works. It was a real eye-opener for me, and since watching it, we have entirely changed the way we buy food.

If you have not yet seen it, you can view it online for free here.

This documentary only barely touches on the issue of genetically modified foods, which is another important aspect of today's food. I also do not agree with the political conclusion and solutions that this movie suggests. Overall, however, the information presented in it is so very worth learning. Please take the time to watch this important documentary.

Homeschooling Family Granted Political Asylum

Immigration Judge Says Germany Violating Basic Human Rights

In a case with international ramifications, Immigration Judge Lawrence O. Burman granted the political asylum application of a German homeschooling family. The Romeikes are Christians from Bissinggen, Germany, who fled persecution in August 2008 to seek political asylum in the United States. The request was granted January 26 after a hearing was held in Memphis, Tennessee, on January 21.

“We can’t expect every country to follow our constitution,” said Judge Burman. “The world might be a better place if it did. However, the rights being violated here are basic human rights that no country has a right to violate.”

Burman added, “Homeschoolers are a particular social group that the German government is trying to suppress. This family has a well-founded fear of persecution…therefore, they are eligible for asylum…and the court will grant asylum.”

In his ruling, Burman said that the scariest thing about this case was the motivation of the government. He noted it appeared that rather than being concerned about the welfare of the children, the government was trying to stamp out parallel societies—something the judge called “odd” and just plain “silly.” In his order the judge expressed concern that while Germany is a democratic country and is an ally, he noted that this particular policy of persecuting homeschoolers is “repellent to everything we believe as Americans.”

‘Embarrassing for Germany’

“This decision finally recognizes that German homeschoolers are a specific social group that is being persecuted by a Western democracy,” said Mike Donnelly, staff attorney and director of international relations for Home School Legal Defense Association. “It is embarrassing for Germany, since a Western nation should uphold basic human rights, which include allowing parents to raise and educate their own children. This judge understood the case perfectly, and he called Germany out. We hope this decision will cause Germany to stop persecuting homeschoolers,” he added.

The persecution of homeschoolers in Germany has been intensifying over the past several years. They are regularly fined thousands of dollars, threatened with imprisonment, or have the custody of their children taken away simply because they choose to home educate.

The Romeikes expressed relief when they heard the decision.

“We are so grateful to the judge for his ruling,” said Uwe Romeike. “We know many people, especially other German homeschoolers, have been praying for us. Their prayers and ours have been answered. We greatly appreciate the freedom to homeschool we now have in America and will be building our new life here,” he added.

Donnelly testified at the hearing on January 21, telling the immigration Judge that homeschoolers are persecuted all over Germany.

‘Ignoring the Truth’

“There is no safety for homeschoolers in Germany,” Donnelly said. “The two highest courts in Germany have ruled that it is acceptable for the German government to ‘stamp out’ homeschoolers as some kind of ‘parallel society.’ The reasoning is flawed. The fact is that homeschoolers are not a parallel society. Valid research shows that homeschoolers excel academically and socially. German courts are simply ignoring the truth that exists all over the world where homeschooling is practiced. They need to look beyond their own borders.”

In 2003 the highest administrative court in Germany, which interprets its federal Constitution, ruled in the Konrad case that it was permissible for parents who have jobs that require them to travel—such as circus performers and musicians—to homeschool, but homeschooling was prohibited for parents who wanted to for reasons of conscience. The highest criminal court said in the Paul-Plett case in 2006 that the government was allowed to take custody of children whose parents want to homeschool for reasons of conscience.

Donnelly challenged the reasoning of the German courts.

“It is ridiculous for German courts to say that homeschooling is allowed if you have practical reasons but disallowed if you have conscientious reasons,” Donnelly said. “This is simply about the German state trying to coerce ideological uniformity in a way that is frighteningly reminiscent of past history. Homeschooling is a growing social movement all over the world, and the Germans want to stamp it out based on a fabricated notion that homeschoolers are a ‘parallel society.’ Germany’s treatment of homeschooling families is worthy of condemnation from the international community. I am proud that a United States immigration judge recognized the truth of what is happening in Germany and has rendered this favorable decision for the Romeike family.”

German homeschoolers have been organizing and trying to draw the attention of German politicians. It has been difficult. Juergen Dudek is a homeschooling father who had been sentenced to 90 days in jail for homeschooling, but whose sentence was reduced to a $300 fine. He noted that officials in Germany have no appreciation for homeschoolers who think differently than the state.

‘Send a Loud Message’

“It is incredible to me that these officials give absolutely no weight to our faith or other conscientious objection to attendance at the public schools,” said Dudek. “We have had a number of families who are not homeschoolers, but who know that the German school system is failing, who called us to encourage us. In our re-hearing the judge issued a decision reducing our sentence from jail to a fine but was totally dismissive of our reasons for wanting to homeschool. We have always been encouraged by the support of American homeschoolers, and we hope that this decision will send a loud message to the German people that what our country is doing is wrong.”

A board member of the Netzwerk Bildungsfreiheit, an organization working for freedom for homeschoolers, said that the ruling would be helpful to homeschoolers in Germany.

“This decision reveals to the rest of the world that the German state acts outside the mainstream of Western democracies. Germany is in the company of countries like China, North Korea and others where fundamental human rights are not respected. Germany’s behavior exposes the totalitarian character of the German school law that takes away a parent’s right to educate their children. A decision on behalf of the Romeikes puts blame on the German government and is a serious warning to Germans officials to change their policies and further accept the rights of the parents. We hope that the decision will send a clear message to authorities in Germany to make changes right away!”

Mike Smith, president of HSLDA, also applauded the decision.

“It’s recognition that the German state is persecuting homeschoolers,” he said. “We are pleased to have been able to support this courageous family, and we hope and pray that this decision will have a decisive effect on German policy makers who should change their laws to recognize parents’ rights to educate their own children.”

You mentioned that you're doing canning, i recently read that canning lids and rings contain BPA. What are your thoughts on this? Are you going to be taking any precautions?

Thank you for sending me a link to that article, which I found very interesting. It was something I had recently started wondering about after reading that the lining of metal cans contains BPA. I'm thinking that I will use the canned goods that I already have, because the food did not really come into contact with the lining much if at all, just as the article suggested.

In the future, I will order my canning supplies from Weck, who offers all glass canning jars and lids. They are a German company, and I grew up with my grandma canning in these.

I know that some babysitters are terrible, but I think that I am pretty good, because I have strong maternal instincts, give lots of hugs, and I voluntarily read her bible stories before she goes to bed, and she is only 16 months old.

I'm 18, and I would like to be involved in a fundamentalist Christian church, but I feel like I'm being pressured by my parents to go to college, get a high paying job, and basically just go against what I want to do (I want to marry my boyfriend and have children). What is the best way to address this to my parents, because I know I should alway honor my mother and father.

#1. Personally, I do not think that there is anything wrong with a mother's helper who helps with the kids, chores, housework, etc. while mom is there. In fact, I had somebody like that for a couple of years when our three oldest were all little. She was a good friend of mine who was newly married and had no children of her own yet, and she would either play with the kids while I worked around the house, or vice versa. She would cook, go grocery shopping, help with the laundry, or whatever needed to be done most that day. She came over a couple of days every week, and it was great. If the kids wanted to play with me, they could, and if they were more entertained by her, they had that option, and it freed me up to get other things done. I was there the whole time, and did not have to worry about the kids' safety for one second. Eventually, my friend had a baby of her own, and we moved away right around the same time. The kids still remember her fondly.

#2 I think it is great that you want to get married and have children, and I think it is what the God wants young ladies to do. (1Timothy 5:14: I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.) Women going to college and entering the work force has been sold to us as "liberation", but really, the ultimate goal of those who pushed it through was to break down the family unit, have children being indoctrinated in government schools, and to tax twice as many people (because moms who stay home do not get paid, and therefore do not pay taxes).

As I am guessing that your parents aren't ***forcing*** you go to college etc, you can just kindly keep insisting that you really would rather not, even if you have it settled in your mind that you definitley won't (see Daniel 1:8). Maybe you could show them why you want to get married from the Bible, and pray for God to change their hearts.

Do you and your husband have a state issued marriage license? and Does your husband perform marriage ceremonies for couple only with a marriage license or only without or either way?

Yes, we do have a state issued marriage license. My husband has only performed one wedding so far, and there was a marriage license. Not sure if he requires that, though, if a couple would rather not have one. In such a case, the marriage would not be legally recognized, and either "spouse" could leave at any time without having to go through a divorce. I have heard of one such case, and it was really rather sad because of the children involved and there being little legal recourse for the person left behind.

Personally, however, I do not think that it is the government's job to issue marriage licenses. I know the controversy surrounding this issue, and the reasons why some people refuse to have a marriage license, and while I agree with them, it's a battle I chose not to pick. But more power to anyone who disagrees with me on that, I certainly see their point.

Just curious, are you also against adoption for childless couples?

No, I think adoption of orphans and abandoned children is great. God has adopted us into his family. I am, however, against the government foster system and taking children away from their parents because some case worker deems them unfit. I could never with a clear conscience become accomplice to the wicked foster system by adopting through them.

I am in no way denying the fact that there are abusive parents out there who certainly need to be brought to justice. But too much of this is the government abusing their power and persecuting people because they disagree with them on how children ought to be raised.

Are you against sugar substitutes? If so, why?

Simply put, you can't have your cake (or sugar) and eat it, too. After researching the subject, I am firmly convinced that ALL artificial sugar substitutes are very detrimental to human health. A wealth of information is available online regarding this issue.

For those addicted to sugar, I still think that being overweight is a better alternative than getting cancer from the artificial sweeteners. But the root problem is that we are used to consuming mass amounts of sugar and other simple carbs. Instead of replacing them with sugar substitutes, we should just be cutting them out of our diets altogether. For example, there really is no reason to drink sodas at all. Juice and carbonated water can be substituted as a natural alternative, but ideally, we would get our "sweet fix" from fruits and occasionally sweets made with honey, fruit syrup, dried fruit, or fruit purees.

Are you one of those people that will withhold lifesving medical treatment from your child(ren) because it's God's will?

No, I am not. Are you one of those people who is scared of catastrophic consequences in the absence of invasive medicine because you do not take the time and effort to keep your children healthy? Jesus was right when he said that they that be whole need not a physician but they that are sick. I put my energy into keeping my children healthy, not worrying about every "what if" life may hold. On the extremely rare occasions that I felt they needed to be seen by a physician, I took them there, and will continue to do so.

In recent months, LiveAction.org secretly videotaped patient consultations at various Planned Barrenhood facilities, pretending to be a young teen who got pregnant by her much older boyfriend, asking how to go about getting an abortion without her parents' knowledge or getting the guy in trouble.

By law, these clinics are required to report such cases as child abuse/rape, but - surprise, surprise - they instead cover them up. The PP employees in these clips are sick and disgusting. When I think of those involved in making abortions possible, I think of this passage in the Bible:

Just to let you know, I refuse to publish any comment condoning abortion, so save yourself the trouble of leaving one if you disagree with me.

Vaccines and Population Control

We do not allow any of our children to be vaccinated. This decision was not based on emotion, but on studying the issue in depth over the course of several months.

I am well aware of the reactions this causes in some people. Ironically, those who have accused me/us of being irresponsible and crazy have themselves never educated themselves on the subject, other than maybe asking their child's doctor about it (who obviously has a vested interest in this issue).

This post is not intended to conclusively show how and why vaccines are detrimental, because that would take too long. I hope to expose several problems with vaccines in different posts over the next few months.

Today, I would like to draw attention to the fact that as parents, we really do not know what our children are being injected with, some of which will stay in their blood stream for the rest of their lives. I do not trust our government with its anti-God agenda and our modern medical establishment that knows next to nothing about health with my child's lifelong wellbeing.

As a sidenote, I read an interesting statistic this week. It said that the number 1 cause of unnatural death worldwide is being murdered by one's government. Shocking, isn't it? It also went on to say that while there have been thousands of dictatorships worldwide throughout history, there have been less than 10 nations who have enjoyed freedoms like the ones the United States had when the country was founded. Sadly, our freedoms are falling by the wayside quickly as a fabricated "war on terror" is ushering in a one-world government that will oppress humans worldwide, but I do believe that we are still the freest and therefore greatest nation on the face of the earth today.

This is an interestig article about the WHO's mass tetanus vaccination program in the 1990s in developing countries. It raised suspicions because only women of child-bearing age were vaccinated. After the vials were tested, it was found out that they were contaminated with hCG, a hormon women produce in order to sustain their pregnancy. After being vaccinated with it, women then developed anti-hCG, with the result of repeated miscarriages due to the anti-hCG in their blood stream.

A Wasted Vote

When asked why they will not vote for a third party candidate, many people will respond by saying something like, He cannot win. Or, I don't want to waste my vote. It is true: America has not elected a third party candidate since 1860. Does that automatically mean, however, that every vote cast for one of the two major party candidates is not a wasted vote? I don't think so.

In the first place, a wasted vote is a vote for someone you know does not represent your own beliefs and principles. A wasted vote is a vote for someone you know will not lead the country in the way it should go. A wasted vote is a vote for the lesser of two evils. Or, in the case of John McCain and Barack Obama, what we have is a choice between the evil of two lessers.

Albert Einstein is credited with saying that insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting a different result. For years now, Republicans and Democrats have been leading the country in the same basic direction: toward bigger and bigger government; more and more socialism, globalism, corporatism, and foreign interventionism; and the dismantling of constitutional liberties. Yet, voters continue to think that they are voting for change when they vote for a Republican or Democrat. This is truly insane.

Take a look at the recent $700 billion Wall Street bailout: both John McCain and Barack Obama endorsed and lobbied for it. Both McCain and Obama will continue to bail out these international banksters on the backs of the American taxpayers. Both McCain and Obama support giving illegal aliens amnesty and a path to citizenship. In the debate this past Tuesday night, both McCain and Obama expressed support for sending U.S. forces around the world for peacekeeping purposes. They also expressed support for sending combat forces against foreign countries even if those countries do not pose a threat to the United States. Neither Obama nor McCain will do anything to stem the tide of a burgeoning police state or a mushrooming New World Order. Both Obama and McCain support NAFTA and similar free trade deals. Neither candidate will do anything to rid America of the Federal Reserve, or work to eliminate the personal income tax, or disband the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Both Obama and McCain support the United Nations. So, pray tell, how is a vote for either McCain or Obama not a wasted vote?

But, back to the he cannot win argument: to vote for John McCain is to vote for a man who cannot win. Yes, I am saying it here and now: John McCain cannot win this election. The handwriting is on the wall. The Fat Lady is singing. It is all over. Finished. John McCain cannot win.

With only three weeks before the election, Barack Obama is pulling away. McCain has already pulled his campaign out of Michigan. In other key battleground states, McCain is slipping fast. He was ahead in Missouri; now it is a toss-up or leaning to Obama. A couple of weeks ago, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Florida were all leaning towards McCain, or at least toss-up states. Now, they are all leaning to Obama. Even the longtime GOP bellwether state of Indiana is moving toward Obama. In addition, new voter registrations are at an all-time high, and few of them are registering as Republicans. In fact, the Republican Party now claims only around 25% of the electorate, and Independents are increasingly leaning toward Obama.

Ladies and gentlemen, Barack Obama is headed for an electoral landslide victory over John McCain. John McCain can no more beat Barack Obama than Bob Dole could beat Bill Clinton.

I ask, therefore, Are not conservatives and Christians who vote for John McCain guilty of the same thing that they accuse people who vote for third party candidates of doing? Are they not voting for someone who cannot win? Indeed, they are. In fact, conservatives and Christians who vote for John McCain are not only voting for a man who cannot win, they are voting for a man who does not share their own beliefs and principles. If this is not insanity, nothing is.

So, why not (for once in your life, perhaps) cast a vote purely for principle Vote for someone who is truly pro-life. Someone who would quickly secure our nation's borders, and end the invasion of our country by illegal aliens. Someone who would, on his first day in office, release Border Patrol agents Ramos and Compean and fire U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton. Someone who would immediately, upon assuming office, begin leading the charge to dismantle the Federal Reserve, overturn the 16th Amendment, expunge the IRS, and return America to sound money principles. Someone who would get the US out of the UN. Someone who would stop spending billions and trillions of dollars for foreign aid. Someone who would prosecute the Wall Street bankers who defrauded the American people out of billions of dollars. Someone who would work to repeal NAFTA, CAFTA, GATT, the WTO, and stop the NAFTA superhighway. Someone who would say a resounding No to the New World Order. Someone who would stop using our brave men and women in uniform as global cops for the United Nations. Someone who would stop America's global adventurism and interventionism. Someone who would steadfastly support and defend the right of the people to keep and bear arms.

More women having fewer children (if at all)

From yesterday's press release by the US Census Bureau:

A new Census Bureau report on fertility shows that 20 percent of women 40 to 44 were childless in 2006, twice as high as the level 30 years earlier. Among other highlights, the report, Fertility of American Women: 2006, found:

• The majority of women with a recent birth (57 percent) were in the labor force.
• Of the 4.2 million women who had a birth in the previous 12 months, 36 percent were separated, widowed, divorced or never married at the time of the survey. Of these 1.5 million unmarried mothers, 190,000 were living with an unmarried partner.
• Second generation Hispanic women tend to have lower fertility rates than either foreign-born Hispanics or those who were third generation (i.e., native and of native parents).
• The highest levels of current fertility (67 births in the year prior to the survey per 1,000 women) were among those with a graduate or professional degree.

The report is the first from the Census Bureau on this topic to use data from the American Community Survey, resulting in state-by-state comparisons of fertility characteristics. Data from the Current Population Survey are also included in the report, permitting historical comparisons of levels of childlessness and births.

This report shows a great deal of variation among states in the characteristics of mothers who had given birth in the previous year. Such mothers, for instance, in the District of Columbia, Mississippi and North Carolina were the most likely to have never married. In addition, recent mothers in California were the most apt to be foreign-born, while those in Mississippi were the likeliest to be poor.

The report also finds that the national birth rate for women age 15 to 50 receiving public assistance in 2006 was about three times of those not receiving public assistance. A decade after the passage of welfare reform in 1996, data show that women in this age range receiving public assistance had a birth rate of 155 births per 1,000 women, compared with 53 births per 1,000 women not receiving it.

In my own words: Women who went to college and who are working successful careers are having 0-1.9 babies that are being raised in daycare. Women who are on welfare (after probably dropping out of school and never going to college) are having three times as many babies as anyone else. Women who are unmarried are having babies more than ever before.

Are there any normal families left? Married people where Dad works hard so Mom can stay home and raise whatever amount of children they are blessed with?

No wonder strangers in public ask to take pictures of our family, saying it's so rare to see a normal family any more these days.

Where to find vaccine info

Several people have asked recently what my opinions on vaccines were. While I would like to write about it at length, I have not yet had the time to do so. In short, we stopped vaccinating our kids after our oldest son turned 1 and I had done extensive research on the subject. The other three have never been vaccinated, or injected with any other substance that they tell you is necessary to newborns and babies (e.g. vitamin K). I have too little faith in the medical profession (the government's prostitute) to let them put anything into any of my children.
