Copycat Recipes for Essential Oil blends

Below is a document I found online some time ago with a long list of copycat recipes of popular essential oil blends. I cannot now find the source of this document. To keep it from getting lost, I am sharing it on here.

I have tried several of the blends, and found them to be very much like the originals they aim to copy. I use and buy mostly Eden's Garden essential oils, and make my own blends with them.

CLICK HERE to access the file in Google Drive.

PT stands for Plant Therapy
YL stands for Young Living
DT stands for DoTerra

  1. Thank you for sharing this!

When you started out with essential oils, did you buy some sort of standard starter kit, or just oils individually as needed?

  2. Thanks for the recipes. Another good source for essential oils and information is:

    http://anandaapothecary.com/

I appreciate them because they are not MLM and can therefore offer very good prices for therapeutic oils. All the oils I have purchased are high quality.

  3. Zsuzsanna,

One question about the Serenity oil you use on Boaz for sleep, is it diluted in a carrier oil? Do you dilute it to 1 or 2 percent? I am still very new to using oil and am not sure exactly how to use them.

    Thank you,
    K

  5. Please be careful with oils. There is only one oil out there that is transparently tested and clinical grade - and that is Ameo Oils. There only has to be 55% oil in a product to call it an oil, but Ameo has clinical standards that the others do not follow.

    1. Stefanie, not to argue please...but there are more than one reputable EO company. Please be careful when making statements like this. ok? It is your opinion so it does count, but we each surely do our homework on EO and I certainly would disagree with your statement. A couple more out there too! :P and no not the popular ones LOL. God Bless.

    2. Just another MLM company. You do realize they have to have a 5% cost point? That means if it costs them $5 they have to sell it for $100. That means cutting corners and buying cheap cheap oils. Lots of great companies out there with amazing oils - amea just isnt one of them.

  6. Have you heard about the latest with Josh Duggar of 19 Kids and Counting? My take is that he is a reprobate. Matter of fact, I was just listening to Pastor Anderson' sermon on Jack Schaap. If the shoe fits... The Duggars preach another Gospel so it makes sense.

  9. These recipes belong to Plant Therapy "Safe Essential Oil Recipes" Facebook Closed Group. The original is on their website, in Word Document. However, the copy on your website has been re-formatted & been put to a PDF (which visually looks much nicer than the original). The latest is Version 9, updated April 21, 2015, in their File section, titled: "essential oil copycats". Link here, though I'm not sure whether it'll work, if you're not a member of the group. https://www.facebook.com/groups/717267978298069/857173374307528/

  16. Thank you for putting this together, when making these oil recipes are they for putting into 10 ml roller bottles with a carrier oil? I love to make my own blends, however, I want to make sure that I'm making them correctly.

  17. Is there any reason why your YL RC Oil blend uses Spruce (Tsuga canadensis), which is actually called Canadian Hemlock, as opposed to the Spruce (Picea mariana), called Black Spruce, which is even listed in the EO list by YL for their RC Oil blend? Just a curiosity.
I use a lot of EOs from Edens Garden as well. Great selection and very affordable.

  20. Thank you so much for putting this list together. I am wondering about Summer Savory oil-I do not see where to purchase it. Is there a substitute for this oil?

  21. It is very important to note several things about the copycat recipes. First of all, many of the oils mentioned are NOT child safe, so please be educated on this before using around your young children. Also, no EO is safe diffused around or put on cats. They lack a liver enzyme to metabolize (break down) the oils, so over time there will be a toxic build-up. So please, no diffusing around cats and never, ever put EO's on your cat. With dogs, they can handle some oils, others they cannot, so again, education is key. Never use oils 'neat' (without a carrier oil).

The recipes given are for master blends. So you put all the oils in the recipe into a 5ml bottle, then use the appropriate amount of drops for your application. So if you are using a diffuser, make a master blend of the recipe, then use 4-6 drops of this blend in your diffuser, up to 15 drops in an inhaler, or 6 drops in a 10ml rollerbottle topped off with carrier oil of your choice.

Also frequently lacking in these recipes is the type of oil that was used. For instance, there are 3 different kinds of Frankincense. Many of the recipes do not specify which Frankincense you should use. Sometimes it makes a huge difference in the results you will get.

All in all, if you have a good grasp of EO's and how to use them safely this is a good list to be a starting point but will need further research to make sure you are using the correct oil where there is more than one to choose from (such as Frankincense, Chamomile, Cedarwood just to name a few).

But otherwise I can see this list doing more harm than good or at least wasting oils because you didn't use the appropriate type of oil. And certainly exercise an abundance of caution (and absolutely educate yourself) before using around pets and especially children.

    1. If you like YL White Angelica, I have found a company that makes a equivelant and has equivelants to both YL and DT as well as their own blends. It is Butterfly Express.net. Bulk Apothecary also has some blend equivelants. Also check on Hope Well Essential Oils .Good Luck.
