Ingredients
- 1-1/2 cups chili powder
- 2 tablespoons garlic powder
- 2 tablespoons onion powder
- 2 tablespoons dried oregano
- 1/4 cup paprika
- 3/4 cup ground cumin
- 1/2 cup sea salt
- 1/2 cup black pepper
- if you like it spicy: up to 2 tablespoons crushed red pepper flakes (I use none)
Mix all ingredients in a large bowl. Store in an airtight container. Makes about 4 cups - 1/4 cup equals a packet of store-bought taco seasoning.
Tastes great for making tacos, taco soup, fajitas, burritos, etc.
Is the store bought kind really that unhealthy? I really just don't know and was wondering.
ReplyDelete*hanging head in shame now...* I do use McCormick taco seasoning but I'm going to try this. Especially with winter coming when I will make lots of taco soup, enchiladas, etc.
ReplyDeleteSecret: I put about a tablspoon of taco seasoning in my meatloaf. My kids LOVE it. Shhhh.
anon, some of them have questionable "anti-caking agents" added, such as silicone dioxide. Depending on the brand, there may be other weird things. My main reason for making my own is because I get to make it just the way I like it, which is this exact recipe.
ReplyDeleteI almost always make all seasoning packets. It just makes sense being that I have nearly very herb and spice on the supermarket shelf in my pantry.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this one. I'll have to give it a try next time.
Thanks for this, I'm trying it! I don't know about there, but here taco seasoning is only available in single meal (read: 4 serve) packets for $2 a pack. Now our ecconomies and dollars are different, but I consider that a much higher price than it's worth.
ReplyDeleteProblem is, I am really bad with herbs and had no idea what to put in a taco seasoning! So, thanks!
Please let Dawn at safewhereverIgo know we are all praying for her and baby. My comment won't go through and she doesn't have anonymous comments(I would put my name at the end of my anonymous comment).
ReplyDeleteI am trying this out tonight! Thanks for passing it on!
ReplyDeleteYum! My kid LOVE Taco's! Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I have been playing with the ingredients for a while, so will definitely give this a go!
ReplyDeleteIt's great on grilled chicken too - served with jacket potatoes and build your own toppings. We use garlic butter, sour cream, shredded cheese, salsa and guacamole here. It's fun for the kids, but the hubby feels like he's getting a full meal at the same time. (As we have a 3yo, a lot of the kid-fun dishes he can help with don't really satisfy DH.)
I dare you to include a price breakdown and start another taco-gate ;)
