Cupcake Fun

One of my favorite hobbies is baking. Not so much because I like sweets, but because it's fun. I especially like cupcakes.

I also have a terrible foible for cookbooks. Sam's Club always has great deals on new releases, and as it so happens, I shop at Sam's at least twice a week for our family and stuff we need for church (we provide free food after the morning service on Sundays). Every time I walk past the book table, these things just start calling my name.

The following books were all purchased there, and I have used every one of them and can recommend them highly.

Cupcakes from the Cake Mix Doctor: While I do not use cake mixes, this book still has a ton of ideas and and recipes that I can make with made-from-scratch dough.

Cupcakes Galore: I would say that of these three books, this is probably my favorite because the recipes are easy, quick, and very creative. I made the "Black Forest Cupcakes" out of this book and they were oh so good!

Hello Cupcake!: What I love about this book is that it teaches how to decorate fancy cupcakes using everyday items like a ziploc bag.
It was from this last book that I got the idea to make "April Fool's" cupcakes for April 1st after the Wednesday night service. The boys helped me by sorting the candies used for the decorating.

Here is a photo of the finished product, snapped with my phone so it didn't come out too great. We had spaghetti with tomato sauce and meatballs, corn on the cob, and "TV dinners" consisting of chicken drumsticks, mashed potatoes, carrots and peas, and chocolate pudding.

Cupcakes are fun!!! And I am glad I go to church where I can feed them to others, else I would become morbidly obese from having to eat all my own creations.

  2. First, I love cookbooks too. When we were moving I contemplated getting rid of some, but I just couldn't do it. Second, I love to bake, but have never really made cupcakes that often. Then just this morning after church, a lady had some, and I told her I needed to try making some and then tonight I get on your blog and there they are again! So this means I must definately make some this week, I'll go to the library and see what books I can find... sounds fun, thanks for the neat ideas you give.
