Nakedness, Modesty, and Breastfeeding

This sermon my husband preached yesterday is spot on and full of biblical truth, cutting through opinions and worldly views commonly shrouding these topics in today's society.

I am thankful that at our church, we do not have a problem of breastfeeding mothers being persecuted, simply because we started the church and have taught the people we have reached right from the start. I do feel bad for ladies and mothers being confronted with these issues virtually everywhere else, though.

  1. I have nothing to say but yes yes yes to this sermon!! It's great I love it!! But I had a question for you... I totally understand if you can't reply, you must be sooo busy, but I would greatly appreciate it if you did!
So my question is about nail polish... yeah I know that might sound werid or like I'm a troll but I promise I'm not! I know in the Bible that it sais not to put marks on yourself, and this is obviously referring to tattoos and the like, but it also speaks of painting the face, which, i assume, is makeep today. I don't believe it ever sais that painting your face is a sin, though it does speak badly of it (I think jezebel painted her face). I totally agree that women shouldnt wear makeup or nail polish for immodest reasons, like to get people to look at them. But anyways, which category do you think nail polish falls in? I don't wear any makeup, but I do think it would be fun to paint my nails, to come up with pretty designs, and be creative with things around the house! (Bobby pins for dots, q-tips for larger dots, tape to cover up part of the nail for French fails or the like, i mean the possibilites are kinda endless!). So, I was just wondering what were your thoights on this? Thank you so much!! :)

  4. Hey, I've been anonymously following your blog for awhile. My husband and I were recently trying to figure out what is considered "modest" swimwear. Glad to have a great biblical answer. I also like the bit about breast feeding. We don't have kids yet since we haven't been married for a year, but It's so amazing how practical God when it comes to feeding babies.

  5. ^The other women in today's culture wear make-up and nail polish so that is what the husbands see all day at work. The pastor did say something about dressing stylishly. Not all husbands will stay married solely for religious reasons so a wise woman shouldn't let herself go. Some women don't need much or any makeup but at least taking care of ones nails and hair and wearing figure flattering clothing can help a lady keep that competitive edge. Do it in a conservative way, but let's not add to the Bible. Fixing up a little can improve one's self esteem and attitude which the husband will notice even if he doesn't mind a natural look. The ornament of a meek and quiet spirit can be tough to pull off if you don't feel feminine or happy about your appearance. Usually when a husband says he doesn't like makeup he is referring to foundation or lipstick which can look overdone or rub off on him. Most men like eye makeup even if they don't admit to it. What they all like is a little self confidence. Happy wife...happy life.

    1. My husband likes me to wear contact lenses and black eyeliner and keep a french manicure. So, I do it when I can.

  6. I was forced into a space at the bottom of of a stairway when I had my youngest. The pastor's wife put a rocking chair in there for me to sit in and it was so cold. They wouldn't even let me sit in the nursery and nurse my baby. I couldn't understand why the pastor was so horrified by nursing breastfeeding in church.
BTW all of my children but my youngest witnessed me breastfeed.

  7. If a man sees a little bit of a veiny, engorged baby suckling breast and gets turned on (if the breast is not attached to his wife of course) then he has some really serious mental health issues he should deal with immediately.

  8. Pastor Anderson says to dress culturally, yet he is all for flashing a breast. Breasts have been oversexualized in today's culture. Especially in England and America. According to his philosophy, we should then be careful about showing the breast. I admit that feeding a baby is in no way a turn on for a man, but for my own sons, who have never seen a bare breast, it would make them very uncomfortable to see one now. I was able to breastfeed in front of my teenage boys while being modest. It can be done. I didn't go shut myself in a room, but I was discreet about it. As long as women are discreet about it, then I don't see a problem with it. I have been shocked at how 'in your face', and mean, women can be about breastfeeding in public. It seems as if some will almost go out of their way to bare all, just to make someone else uncomfortable. That type of attitude is the opposite of meek and quiet. If you want to breastfeed in public, and can do so discreetly, without a mean-spirited attitude, all the more power to you. I don't understand why it's such a big deal. For both sides of the coin. If I had to nurse one of my six children in public, I did it. If I knew my nursing would make someone uncomfortable, like one of the men in church, I went in the nursery to do it. Isn't one of our goals as believers to live peaceably with other believers?

  9. I recently saw a woman breastfeed at an outdoor concert. The used a small blanket to cover the "activity." No problem there!

  10. This blog is addictive, and I'm a crusty old coot who is divorced and eats nothing but junk food. I don't know where women like you and the ladies commenting here come from, but God bless you all. The ladies I've consorted with through life couldn't boil water and never got up before noon. I'm jealous of each of you! :)

  11. Ezekial 16:7 , breasts ARE nakedness.

  12. @Jon Hunt- Ezekiel 16:7 only says "your breasts are fashioned, and thine hair is grown, whereas thou wast naked and bare." It doesn't mean the long hair is nakedness. You have to read the following verse, which says "...and I spread my skirt over thee, and covered thy nakedness" (waist below)

    1. Yeah, Kathy, your point was totally supporting Jon Hunt that "I spread my skirt over thee, and covered THY NAKEDNESS."
