Easy recipe for breadsticks

This is a recipe I learned from - are you ready for this? - my husband! Yes, you read that right! He may not be much of a pro in the kitchen (cough, cough), but that just goes to show that we can learn something from just about anyone. :)

To start, you will need some of my staple "crusty dough". It's great for pizza, baguettes, bread sticks, or any other "crusty" bread product you may need. One batch is plenty for the average family, which is nice because it keeps for 2 weeks in the fridge so you can just keep it on hand. Or, freeze in smaller portions for another day.

Preheat your oven to 425-450 degrees. If you have a pizza stone (highly recommended to make the bread sticks perfect), place it in the oven before preheating.

Tear off some dough, roll it out thinly on a well-floured surface, pricking it with a dough docker as needed.

Once the dough is thin enough (1/8 inch?), generously slather in Caesar or Ranch dressing (for the ranch dressing recipe, please check in the comments of above link). I prefer Caesar.

Next, sprinkle with lots of grated parmesan cheese, or a  mix of parmesan, romano, and/or pecorino cheeses.

Finish off with a good sprinkling of Italian seasonings (my mixture contains oregano, marjoram, thyme, basil, rosemary, and sage).

Next, fold the dough in half, with the toppings inside. No need to pinch edges shut, or worry about the shape of the dough. With a pizza cutter, cut off strips about 1 to 1 1/2 inches wide. Twist strips, and place on preheated baking sheet (no rise time necessary).

Bake until golden, about 8-12 minutes. Taste fantastic by themselves, or with a side of marinara, or Caesar dressing.

  2. They look soooooo yummy!!! I love the idea of putting Caesar dressing...YUM! Yeah, my husband is the best pizza maker and I am still trying to learn from him how he makes the pizza dough so amazing! I follow "his recipe" and it still doesn't taste the same!
    Who knew ;)

  4. Yum. Thanks for the recipe. I love all your wonderful bread recipes...and now that I have a bread/pizza stone they taste even better.

That's too bad about your husband's helplessness in the kitchen. I'll be honest and say that I plan to teach my son how to cook, just as much as my daughter. If I can help it, I'll deprive him of the "helpless-in-the-kitchen" badge of honor that most IFB husbands seem to have. I LOVE that my husband can make great meals too so we get to switch off and have more variety. I hope my son's wife will appreciate it as well!

  6. That does sound quite good! We'll have to try these. And as for your daughter and her love of asparagus....I'm right there with her. By far, my favorite veggie. It's too bad it's also one of the most expensive..haha!

  7. Adding dressing to the dough is a great idea. Really simple, but I bet it adds a lot of taste.
